2027 Acura MDX: What's Changing, Release Date and Pricing for New York Families
Published September 10, 2026 · Last updated October 22, 2026
The MDX is the three-row luxury SUV that drives like something smaller, a trait that matters more on the Cross Bronx at 5 p.m. than on any test track. Acura has now confirmed that the 2027 MDX is coming with updates, and that the Type S is taking a break. Pricing isn't out yet, so here is what Acura has confirmed, what the industry expects and what each package means for life in the five boroughs.
2027 Acura MDX news: what's new since September
Latest updates
- October 13, 2026: Acura's new business roadmap says the MDX, ADX and Integra will all receive meaningful enhancements for the 2027 model year. Acura calls the MDX the industry's best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time. The details of the 2027 changes haven't been published yet.
- October 13, 2026: MDX momentum is strong. Acura reports brand sales up 4.4% through the first three quarters of 2026, with MDX sales up more than 25% over the same period.
- October 13, 2026: The same roadmap reveals a new 8-passenger SUV, Acura's largest ever, positioned above the 7-passenger MDX. Acura gave no launch date; Automotive News reports it could arrive around 2030.
- October 13, 2026: Acura says a new V6 hybrid powertrain is in development for its D-Segment models. It hasn't said which models get it or when, so there is still no confirmed MDX hybrid.
- September 2026: Acura confirmed to Automotive News that it is pausing MDX Type S production after the 2026 model year, citing uncertainty over upcoming U.S. emissions rules. Dealer supply is expected to last into early 2027, and Acura told Road & Track it plans to bring some Type S features and styling to other MDX trims.
- Elsewhere in the lineup: an all-new RDX Hybrid and an adventure-ready SUV are both planned for 2028.
What's changing on the 2027 Acura MDX?
The one confirmed change is software. In July 2026 Acura announced that Google Gemini replaces Google Assistant in every MDX with Google built-in, from the 2025 model year on. No more exact commands: ask for a kid-friendly lunch stop along your route, or chat with Gemini Live while you crawl toward the Verrazzano. The 2027 will have it from day one, and 2025 and 2026 models get it too.
Acura has now confirmed "meaningful enhancements" for the 2027 MDX without saying what they are. Industry watchers expect a feature reshuffle, new colors and Type S styling details on other trims rather than new sheet metal. The 290-hp 3.5-liter V6 with a 10-speed automatic is expected to carry on as the only engine, because the 355-hp 3.0-liter turbo V6 leaves with the paused Type S. A hybrid is not expected for 2027; Acura's new V6 hybrid is still in development, and analysts tie electrification to the next-generation MDX, which will likely follow the 2028 RDX Hybrid and the NEXERA Vision design concept Acura revealed in August 2026.
When is the 2027 Acura MDX release date?
Release timing at a glance
- Official announcement: on October 13, 2026 Acura confirmed that a 2027 MDX with meaningful enhancements is coming, but gave no on-sale date. In September, Acura said it would share more 2027 MDX details closer to a launch later this year. The 2026 MDX is still the current model.
- The recent pattern: the refreshed 2025 MDX reached dealers in May 2024, and 2026 pricing first appeared on May 21, 2025. MDX model years have been turning over in late spring, not fall.
- What the industry expects: Edmunds lists a fall 2026 release, while other outlets point to late 2026 through the first half of 2027. Acura's confirmation rules out the theory that the 2026 would simply carry on until the next generation.
- Locally: 2026 models remain the bulk of MDX supply around New York for the rest of this year, and the 2026 Type S is the last one until Acura restarts it.

With Gemini already reaching 2025 and 2026 models, waiting only pays if Acura adds equipment you want. Outgoing model years usually get the strongest support near a changeover, and our lease specials, refreshed every month, plus current manufacturer incentives, show where the numbers sit today.
Is there a 2027 Acura MDX Type S?
Not at launch. Acura is pausing Type S production after the 2026 model year, and calls it a pause rather than an ending, so a return later is possible. The Type S has made up less than 10% of MDX sales, and Acura says some of its premium features and styling will move to other MDX trims.
If you want the 355-hp turbo V6, adaptive air suspension and 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen system, the 2026 Type S is the one to buy, and dealer supply is expected to run into early 2027. Check new Acura MDX inventory in Brooklyn, or ask our team to locate a Type S with Advance Package. For a lower price, certified pre-owned MDX models include earlier Type S years.
Will the 2027 Acura MDX cost more?
Probably. The 2026 MDX starts at $51,800 with front-wheel drive and tops out at $75,850 for the Type S with Advance Package, before a $1,450 destination charge. Industry estimates suggest the 2027 could open near $54,000 with front-wheel drive, about $2,200 above today. That's bigger than last year's $900 step, so treat it as an estimate until Acura confirms. With the Type S paused, the most expensive 2027 MDX will likely be the A-Spec with Advance Package, so the top of the range should come down even if the starting price goes up.
For New Yorkers, the sticker is only half the math. At the 8.875% rate that applies to New York City residents, a $60,850 MDX SH-AWD with Technology Package (destination included) carries roughly $5,400 in sales tax. Leasing works differently: New York taxes a lease on the total of its payments, usually collected at signing or folded into the monthly figure. A pre-approval that needs no Social Security number or date of birth and an early trade-in appraisal pin down your real budget before you visit.
How do the MDX packages compare?
Acura sells the MDX as one model with packages. The table uses official 2026 data; the industry expects the structure to return, but no 2027 package or price is confirmed.
| Package | Drive | Powertrain | MSRP (2026) | EPA mpg (2026) | What you gain |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MDX | FWD / SH-AWD | 3.5L V6, 290 hp, 10-spd | $51,800 FWD $54,000 SH-AWD | 19/26/22 FWD 19/25/21 AWD | Panoramic moonroof, Google built-in, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, 11 speakers |
| Technology | FWD / SH-AWD | 3.5L V6, 290 hp | $57,200 FWD $59,400 SH-AWD | 19/26/22 FWD 19/25/21 AWD | Front and rear parking sensors, low-speed braking, Milano leather, 20-in wheels, 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen, quieter cabin |
| A-Spec | SH-AWD | 3.5L V6, 290 hp | $62,400 | 19/25/21 | Sport styling, heated and ventilated front seats, paddle shifters, available red leather |
| Advance | SH-AWD | 3.5L V6, 290 hp | $66,900 | 19/25/21 | Surround-view camera, head-up display, 16-way massaging front seats |
| A-Spec Advance | SH-AWD | 3.5L V6, 290 hp | $68,900 | 19/25/21 | A-Spec look plus Advance comfort, Berlina Black 20-in wheels |
| Type S Advance | SH-AWD | 3.0L turbo V6, 355 hp / 354 lb-ft | $75,850 | 17/21/19 | Adaptive air suspension with Lift mode, Brembo brakes, AcuraWatch 360, 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen Paused after 2026 |
For most city households, the Technology Package with SH-AWD is the sweet spot. For $5,400 over the base SH-AWD model it adds parking sensors with low-speed braking control, the 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen system and the noise-reduction upgrades. Surround-view camera and head-up display arrive with the Advance Package. If you're waiting on the Type S, buy a 2026 now; there won't be a 2027 version at launch.
How does it compare with the last restyle?
The 2025 model year brought this generation's mid-cycle refresh and fixed what owners complained about most.
| Area | 2022–2024 MDX | 2025–2026 MDX | 2027 MDX |

| Infotainment | 12.3-in screen run by a touchpad | 12.3-in touchscreen with Google built-in | Same hardware; Gemini assistant confirmed |
| Front styling | Framed Diamond Pentagon grille | Open-frame grille, darker lights; frameless on A-Spec and Type S | No change announced |
| Audio | ELS Studio, 12 to 25 speakers | Bang & Olufsen, 19 speakers; 31 on Type S | Expected to carry over |
| Driver assistance | AcuraWatch | Upgraded camera and radar; AcuraWatch 360 on Type S | Expected to carry over |

| Starting MSRP | $50,900 in 2025 | $51,800 in 2026 | Not announced; industry estimate near $54,000 |
Tech that earns its keep in traffic
Every MDX pairs a 12.3-inch digital cluster with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Google Maps runs natively with live traffic, so rerouting around a BQE closure doesn't depend on your phone, and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Physical controls stay for climate and volume.
Audio is where the MDX pulls ahead at similar money: 19 Bang & Olufsen speakers from the Technology Package, 31 in the Type S. Laminated rear door glass on Technology and above also helps when a siren passes on Queens Boulevard.
Three rows for real family logistics
The MDX seats seven. Pull the removable second-row center seat and you get captain's chairs with a path to the third row, which suits kids and short hops better than long trips for adults. The IIHS rates the LATCH hardware Good+, and CabinTalk carries the driver's voice to the back row. Cargo space runs 16.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 39.1 behind the second and 71.4 behind the front seats, so a JFK run with checked bags means folding the third row. If your family rarely fills that third row, our RDX vs MDX comparison shows what you gain and give up with the smaller Acura.
What the awards and ratings say
The 2026 MDX holds an IIHS Top Safety Pick, and NHTSA gives the front-wheel-drive version its maximum five-star overall rating. Kelley Blue Book lists it among its Best Luxury Mid-Size SUVs and places it in the top 11 to 25% of its class for five-year cost to own. Acura calls the MDX the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time.
In June 2026 an MDX Type S paced the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and brand-wide the Integra won 2023 North American Car of the Year. Every MDX carries a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain coverage.
Why the MDX suits New York driving
Traction you feel, not just read about. Super Handling All-Wheel Drive can send up to 70% of torque to the rear and all of that to the outside rear wheel. On a slushy Belt Parkway ramp, it holds its line instead of pushing wide.
Built for stop-and-go. Adaptive cruise with low-speed follow and Traffic Jam Assist are standard for the LIE at rush hour, and the V6 has the shove for short FDR on-ramps.
Know your garage before you shop. The MDX is 198.4 inches long, 78.7 wide without mirrors and 67.1 tall, under most garage limits until you add a roof box. Parking sensors start at Technology, surround view at Advance, and the Type S air suspension lifts about two inches for steep driveway lips or plowed curbs.
Weekend range. Properly equipped SH-AWD models tow up to 5,000 pounds, enough for a boat to the Jersey Shore. The trade-off is fuel economy: at 21 to 22 mpg combined, the MDX trails hybrid rivals. Local tip: New York insurance quotes swing widely by ZIP code, so price a policy on the exact VIN before signing.
